沒動詞 (verb) 的句子
我們曾經說過：每一句標準英語都有一個動詞 (verb)。這基本上都是對的，不過在三個特殊的情況下可以是情有可原：一是感嘆語，二是回應語，還要加多一個懶惰語：
感嘆語例子：(英文稱為Interjection)
· Good heavens! (天呀！)
· Oh my god! (我的天公！)
· Well done! (做得好！)
· What nonsense! (荒謬！)
· How wonderful! (多美妙呀！)
這些句子是對正在發生的事態一個很明顯的反應，雖然沒有動詞，但已把情感充分表露，對方亦明白你的心意。
回應語例子：
· ‘Have you eaten yet?’ ‘Yes.’
(中)：‘你吃了沒有？’ ‘有。’
· ‘What did you like about the picture?’ ‘The beautiful colour.’
(中)：‘你喜歡這畫裏的什麽？’ ‘那美麗的顔色。’
· ‘Can I marry your daughter?’ ‘Over my dead body!’
(中)：‘我可以娶你的女兒嗎？’ ‘我死了也不可以！’
· ‘Do you like fishing?’ ‘No, too cruel.’
(中)：‘你喜歡釣魚嗎？’ ‘不，太殘忍了。’
· ‘Have you read Shakespeare’s works?’ ‘Only a few.’
(中)：‘你閲讀過莎士比亞的作品嗎？’ ‘只是幾本。’
這些句子因是回應，聼者已明白完整的一句應是什麽。如第一句應是 ‘Yes, I have eaten.’
當然還有一些口頭語（懶惰語）：
· ‘Any news about your job?’
(本應是：Do you have any news about your job?)
(中)：‘有關於你工作的消息嗎？’
· ‘Better luck next time!’
(本應是：I wish you better luck next time.)
(中)：‘下次好運些！’
· ‘No homework – no dinner.’
(本應是：If you do not do your homework you will not be given dinner.)
(中)：‘沒功課 – 沒晚餐。’
· ‘Certainly the kind of spirit our nation needs!’
(本應是：It is certainly the kind of spirit our nation needs!)
(中)：‘肯定是我們國家需要的那種精神了！’
完整的一句也是很明顯了。
