Yi-Ch’ienMeil Ch ’ia-Wu
(一剪梅·甲午)
Births and deaths, comings and goings
What is meant by dire poverty-childhood
(Ages)?
Yet here they were, vivid in own fresh who
Ch’ia-Wu hero
Zoomed towards me
Sighing rolling waves linked with rainbows
In the spherical concave
He was a loser, whose life overlapped mine
I am a winner and he was I
As the children of china’s history
True to life
In a sorry plight Past and Future trails the mark
The way
A dog follows its master
Into, out of, and within thick fog, only, if any,
The unsurfaced blooded-roads silent wind
The sate less exultation
Sang in vein
With a tip of finger pointing to the eye of empty heaven
Of a thousand and one nights (ages) of resentment
The blood runs up to the edge of purple mighty hair
Mountains peered and waters refreshed
“Grow grapes and make wine”
(Translation from the Chinese by jinsheng)
